Guru Smt Rashmi Khanna , a prominent Bharatnatyam exponent, is acknowledged as an adept dancer, guru, choreographer and a special educator. Director and the founding member of Kalyani Kala Mandir she started her training in the Dandayudapanipillai style of Bharatnatyam from Guru Smt Kalyani Shekar at age seven. Her achievement in the precision of technique, form and abhinaya in the field of Bharatnatyam as well as creative Indian dance is unparalleled. A scholarship holder for her proficiency in Bharatnatyam from the ICCR, Sahitya Kala Parishad and the Ministry of Culture, Rashmi has performed at many prestigious dance festivals in India and abroad. Recipient of many honours such as the Critic Circle Of India Award, Sakha Award, Pride of the Nation Award, Sarasalaya Award, ‘Nritya Vidya Ratna’, ‘Nritya Bharat Ratna’ she has also received the Navy Kiran award for her contribution in the field of classical dance in 2013. Recently she was also felicitated along with the eminent dance gurus of the capital for promoting classical arts amongst the youngsters. Apart from Bharatnatyam, Rashmi has also learnt other dance forms such as Kathak, Chhau, Indian folk, Jazz, Salsa, Tap and Modern Indian Ballet. Beginning her training in Carnatic music from Guru Smt. Vijaylaxmi Krishnan, Rashmi continues to pursue it under the tutelage of Guru Shri G. Elangovan.
She is also a trained special educator specializing in multiple disabilities and has worked with children with special needs for many years at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute and Sanskriti School, New Delhi.
